Summer 2022: Sailing to Prince Rupert, Haida Gwaii west coast, and back home: Day-to-day details

Sailed 39nm! Sailing was so good we took advantage and went all the way to Flamingo. You never know if the weather will turn bad on the west coast! Bit wild at Flamingo entrance (and not well charted). Surprise: 3 boats already in Sperm (including Kelkara). Sperm Bay uncharted.

Calm motor; shortcut via Adams Rocks fine; went to water buoy up Louscoone Inlet, but it was GONE! Headed over to single mooring buoy at Rose Hbr. Dinner at “Susan’s” which is now a dedicated dining cabin normally run by Frances (but Frances was away and Susan did dinner). Now $75pp. But a treat!

Little wind forecast (but gale tomorrow) – we have a window. Sailing? Turns out GREAT sailing (S/SE 10-20 kn). Sailed 68 of 93 nm. Quite bouncy at end. Had planned to go to Gillen Hbr, but looked too rough, so went longer to Chapple (to hole up)

Calm morning. Started out and got fuel problems. Changed Racor. More fuel problems, but we made it to Meyers (and changed filter again). Must have been the bouncy sail and/or the bouncing at anchor during winds. Nice and calm in Meyers.

Stopped at Klemtu for fuel and water (not sure about Shearwater). No more fuel “starvation”. Went long distance and met up with Wayne & Lee on SV Chanter, who made dinner for us and had WINE!
